Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:

• People who want to apply must be citizens of a country that has formal ties with Japan.

Educational Background:

• Master’s or Integrated Doctoral Program: Applicants must have finished 16 years of schooling outside of Japan or be on track to do so before they can join.
• PhD Program: Applicants must have a degree from a university outside of Japan that is equal to a master’s degree or a professional master’s degree, or they will have to get one before they can enroll.

Academic Requirement (MEXT Scholarships):

• People who want to apply should have a GPA of at least 2.3 out of 3.

Age Requirement:

• Applicants must be at least 22 years old on the day before they are asked to come in.

Language Requirement:

• There is no need to know Japanese because classes and lessons are taught in English.
• Students can, however, take Japanese classes to help them get used to daily life in Japan.

English or Japanese Proficiency & Exemption

One of the following must be true about applicants: they must be fluent in either English or Japanese;

• English tests like the TOEFL iBT (including the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition), the TOEFL ITP Plus for China Solution (taken in China), the TOEFL paper-delivered Test, and the TOEIC L&R IELTS Academic Module.
• Have earned or expect to earn by the time they start at Tokyo Tech a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a school where all classes were taught in English or Japanese (those people can apply for IELTS Exemption).
• Levels of English or Japanese skills that are at least as good as those listed in (1) must be shown as proof.

Award

• The TITech Tuition Reduction Scholarship pays for all of the tuition.
• 144,000 JPY a month to cover living costs (number may change)
• Getting from home to TITech in economy class on flights at the start and end of the program.
